South uist

Title: South uist

Discussion: Hi everyone..

My family and I will be relocating to Uist very soon and I was wondering if anyone has moved there recently?

If so could you give me a general idea of what it is like to live there from a family point of view. Googled plenty but not the same as chatting with people who have the t/shirt so to speak. Thanks.

I was born in Daliburgh and lived in Lochboisdale until I was 18 and I moving back next month with my son and partner. One of the main reasons we are returning is because of the wee one. It is a great place for kids (the young ones anyway) and there are plenty of opportunities to do things as a family. Are there any particular aspects of island life you would like to know about (school, hobbies/clubs, social life, amenities, etc)?

October to April is an interesting time. If you have never spent time on the islands in the winter then you may be in for a bit of a shock. It gets very wild and windy. Power cuts are quite common and sometimes the water goes off. Make sure you have some candles or glow sticks, spare blankets, bottles of water, and maybe a camping stove, and you\'ll be fine.
