Looking for a long let on South Uist

Title: Looking for a long let on South Uist
Posted by: Kieren Jones on 06-07-2009

Discussion: Hi all. I'm getting a bit desperate as I now have 3 weeks to find accomodation for my move to South Uist, I'll be over on the week beginning the 3rd of August.

Introductions first. I'm Kieren, I'm the new Machair apprentice and will be working under Jamie Boyle as part of the RSPB with particular interest in encouraging Corn Crakes back to the machair. I am also contracted to BTCV who are the ones behind the scheme to get dedicated individuals into the conservation sector.

I was over on North Uist last week and had such a great time meeting new people and I know the jungle drums have a very fast beat out there so you may have already heard that I am looking for accomodation for 15 months at least however there's a chance that the job may become permanent at the end so a longer lease might be possible.

Anyway we spent a day going around the local estate and letting agents and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much available on South Uist, which is where I really need to find somewhere as I will be up and down the west coast machair.

I have had a few offers of accomodation in static caravans on North Uist till I find somewhere but I'd really like to find permanent accomodation asap. I've spoke to the council and I might get lucky with Lochboisdale but again that's at least 3 weeks into my time on the island before that happens.

I don't have an unlimited budget, I think I could stretch to a 2 bedroom cottage, ideally this would be the case as I will be encouraging my friends and family to come out and visit so I can pass on what I'm picking up.

if anyone has any advice or better yet knows of someone looking to let then if you could let me know on here or by email Kieren_Jones@hotmail.com then I would really appreciate it.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you all while being out and about, you have a beautiful, well kept secret out on the Uists and I'm already hooked.
