Discussion: Hi, my name is James Johnstone (Jim). I am 46 years of age and live in West Lothian, Scotland.
My Grandfather is from South Uist but left the island and moved to the mainland. He died before I was born. From the age of 11 to 16 I would go to his family croft which is between Pollachar and East Kilbride to help with the summer workload. This was home to my Grandfather’s two brothers Ronald and Neil, their sister Morag and my dads second cousin Lexie. I have never been back to the island since 1978. This is something I regret and hope to put right as soon as financially possible. I think that Lexie is still alive but I’m not sure. The five summers that I spent with them will always hold good memories for me, by the standards shown by them and all within the local community that I was fortunate enough to meet. If anyone remembers me or knows my family I would love to hear from them. |
