gaelic programmes on tv

Title: gaelic programmes on tv
Posted by: Margaret Ann Humberstone on 14-09-2006

Discussion: im amazed at the lack of programmes in Gaidhlic for adults and children alike . last time i checked kids half hour was at 7.30 in the morning Monday to Friday and Thursday seems to be the night for adults with 15 mins at midnight once a week for music.
Wasn't there talk of us getting our own Gaidhlic channel, the Welsh do!!!(no offence to the Welsh).

I am English and lived on Benbecula for a couple of years and it is my intention to return there to live as soon as I can. I have picked up a little of the language from friends and Runrig songs. I think it would be a good idea to have a language teaching programme for us to be able to join in and converse in your own language. My youngest son, Paul used to love watching "Dotaman" (I hope I've spelt it right) and "Super Ted" with of course the voice of Calum Macdonald. If I can return, maybe I could do a course at school but, watching everyday TV would make it easier and quicker to learn.

7:30am, you won't catch my up at that time and I am 31, kids of today.

One of the best programmes of late was Randan, that was about 3 years ago now, and the old PC Alistair. I quite liked Air a Bhord as well.

I am surprised that nobody has tapped into the best kept secret [you might disagree] that the Uists and surrounding Isles have the best trout fishing in the world. Okay, so Paul Young was there once. Sorry Paul, I don't rate you dude. Many a man from Lochcarnan that has left this world would put your skills to shame, and a few that are still left.

A gaelic programme once a week would be amazing, or how about complimenting 70 Lochs by John Kennedy with a programme. It would guarantee ratings. Not only that, it could look at the fishing tradition as well as educational relief at the same time.

I hope your poor wee ones are not getting up at 7:30am Margaret, get that Sky+ thing or whatever it's called, will save them ruining their beauty sleep. It's great for watching replays of totally non-deserved decisions on Celtic players.

Do you want me to delete that Welsh bit? och no let's leave it.

Anyway, yes, some new Gaelic programmes that break the mould, and some new faces would not go a miss. We need some Gaelic babes or a Uist David Hasselhof. I rest my case.
