MacCormack Family South Uist

Title: MacCormack Family South Uist
Posted by: Shirley Croton on 13-09-2019

Discussion: I am wanting any information on my Paternal Grandfathers Family from South Uist. Angus MacCormack married Catherine Johnstone, and Neil Gordon MacCormack was born from their marriage. Neil Gordon MacCormack is my Grandfather.
Neil emigrated to New Zealand in early 1900,s and never made it back home
I would love any information on any living Family as will be visiting South Uist in 2020 and its my lifelong wish to connect with my Scottish heritage. Thank you

Hi Shirley,

If you register with www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Credits are very reasonable & you can download the marriage of Angus & Catherine which will name all 4 parents including maiden names of mothers

MACCORMACK ANGUS
JOHNSTONE CATHERINE
1863
118/2 5 Howmore

Children from the Baptism Index (Downloadable)

Baptised St. Michael's, Ardkenneth

Catharine 1864
Donald 1865
Anne 1867
Malcolm 1869

It's possible other baptism entries haven't survived but checking the 1881 & 1891 census will give you an idea who may be missing & will be on the Statutory Register which is separate from Baptisms.

You don't give a date for Neil, however if I have it correct he was born 1878 (indexed as Niel) instead of Neil with no middle name?

A M
