Steel/Steele

Discussion: Ladies and Gents
It has been a long time since visiting this site. My ancestors Dugald, John and Donald came from South Uist in 1791/1792, all 3 leased land in 1792 on Prince Edward Island. I have completed the genealogy from 1792 to the present but never could find any information before 1792. If anyone has information on this family please pass it on to me.
Much appreciated

Hi Julanne,

If you can post names with dates & maiden names (any info. you have) I can have a look pre 1849 as the surname Steele is quite common.

Hello, my family immigrated to Mara Township, Ontario in 1849 from South Uist. I suspect that the families in Ontario and PEI are related in some way. Has anyone found genealogy from South Uist prior to 1841?

Hi Allan & Warren,

I have no info. to help but I believe I'm descended from the same branches somewhere back.

The furthest back I can trace by paper is my 3 x g grandfather Malcolm Steele c1770 - bet 1841-1851 i.e. no info. on parents although I believe they may have been Donald & Mary (m/s Steele) info. from someone many yrs ago which I can't link to.

I have recently taken a DNA test & hope to find some more connections which lead to something further back?

Have either of you gone the DNA route?

A M

Correct, 3 sisters came to PEI, one married Donald Campbell, another married James Nowlan and Sarah married Dougald Steele. The sister remaining in Scotland was married to a McIsaac.
I'm descended from Dougald Steele, sixth generation.

Of my MacLellan ancestors who emigrated to PEI in 1787, John and Angus had one sister who remained in South Uist. Three others came too including one (un-named) who married 'Dougald Steel' of Miscouche. I am descended from both John and Angus's lines.
