Discussion: I am a descedent of Donald and son Roderick MacIntosh, who emigrated from Lochboisdale (recorded address) in 1772, settling in eastern Prince Edward Island (then St. John's Island). They sailed on the brig Alexander, which was organized by Captain John MacDonald, who I beleive was second-in-command of Claranald at the time. They are known as the 200 strong, Glenaladale settlers (about 100 of which came from South Uist) and are well remembered where I come from. Most descendents of that MacIntosh family still live in eastern PEI (Souris), where my mother was from and where I was raised. Other families have similarly remained there to this day for the most part. It is very much a culture where people stick close to home. They are modest, good people with strong values, no doubt owing to the culture from which they came.
I will be visiting South Uist during between June 28th-July 2nd. As far as I know, I am the first descendent to have returned since 1772. I am very anxious to know a lot more about the history of my family pre-1772. If anyone can help, I would be very appreciative. |
