The Isle of South Uist

Stilligarry

Title: Stilligarry
Posted by: Don Crosby on 15-09-2007

Discussion: In a conversation with a relative related to the Currie family the name Stillegarry came up. however, I was only able to find one on line reference to it in the Glen Moidart Papers and there it was spelled both with two and one 'l'. Can anyone enlighten me as to its existence in South Uist and if so, its location?

Don - you'll find Stilligarry just off the main road heading north. It's in between Howmore and Gerinish which are themselves a few miles away from the causeway to Benbecula.

I know it's there because I had some wedding photos taken by the loch 14 years ago!

Try this URL to see a map of the north of the island. Stilligarry is right there in the middle beside Grogarry.
