Discussion: Hi folks,
I'm a city lassie who has fallen in love with the Outer Hebrides and am desperate to escape the rat race and live the island life for a summer (at least). I think South Uist would be a perfect base to work hard and explore the neighbouring islands.
I was wondering what the job market is like in the summer (I won't be coming until next year)? I have experience working in hostels, tour operators, at Edinburgh Airport and a few tourist attractions.
Also, are there many 'rooms for rent'? I can't seem to find anyone advertising online.
Is there any other advice you can give me about integrating into the community? This is whole reason I am coming for this experience, to enjoy the laid-back island life and sense of community which is seriously lacking in Edinburgh.
I'm also a travel writer so want to use as much time as I can writing about my experience and promoting your beautiful island. If there are any local publications you think I could get a wee job with, that would be ideal!
It's a big decision for me to leave behind my house and good job, but it's something I really want to go. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kay |
