John, I am a few years late to your response, but I have a lot of information on John Steele and Flora McDonald. I am a direct descendant. They sailed on the Tuskar out of Loch Boisdale.

I have just found this website, but if there are any Steele family members here I am a descendant of the Steeles that were sent to Canada in 1849. I would love to share information.

Hi Anne Marie ,
i really dont know anything of John Steele of Askernish ,, but it was the only other John Steele i could find beyond the John Steele that was married to Flora Mac Donald, on the island , i dont think that there were many records at that point. I know that they came over on the Tuskar , they settled in Mara township Canada , which is now the city of Ramara .
I have traced my fathers side back to John Steele . I got this information from , and I remember my grandmother speaking of the names of my grandfathers family. I found the address of Dalaborg 118 from a census in Scotland and later in Canada. I do know that there were Mc Issac's , Mc Leans , Mac Donalds , and so on that were on the ship together and settled the area of Mara co.

Hi John,

Can you elaborate on the John Steele on Askernish Farm please regarding the yr(s) he was there, where did you find the info, what was his occupation & age (yr born)?

Can you tell us the name of the ship sailed on in 1849 please?

118 is the registration district for Boisdale, the area which Daliburgh comes under.

Anne Marie.
