Hi Norry,

A bit more investigating done and it appears John's parent's were Donald Walker & Catherine Campbell.

John was born c 1819 so there will be no record of his birth nor of his parents marriage.

He had 6 siblings: Catherine, Margaret, Flora, Effie, Malcolm & Mary. Besides John 4 of them married!

John & Ann had 7 kids altogether: Donald, John, Malcolm, Neil, Alexander, Donald & Catherine.

Norry,

A bit more rummaging & going by what I have I think John's parent's may be John Walker & Catherine Walker (Walker was her maiden name)?

If so they were married 1824, Garrynamonie, Boisdale.

John was b 28 Mar 1837 South Boisdale & baptised 09 Apr 1837, Bornish.

If I'm on the right track, John had 7 siblings.

Hi Norry,

Been doing some digging and omething just isn’t adding up?

John Walker = Ann MacAskill 1856 (your date)

I found another 2 births for them!

John Walker b 02 Aug 1858 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYYH-4LZ

Malcolm Walker b 14 Jul 1860 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYYH-ZM6

Your Margaret/Peggy was born 1865 (your date)

You also have Alexander born 1867. I have him b 03 Dec 1867 (South Boisdale) – Baptism 08 Dec 1867 (Bornish)

Is it possible that there were 2 couples with same names?
If not he’s certainly been making hay…… :-)

A bit more digging to do I think.

Norry,

I meant to ask which areas the events took place (marriage & death)?

It's quicker for me searching if I have an idea of the areas I should be looking.

Norry,

20yrs is some age difference indeed.

His marriage to Ann MacCaskill & death were both after 1855 (start of registration law) so you will get his parent\'s names from those certificates (the marriage at least) as he himself would have given those details.

If you can then give me their names, I may have his birth but for me to search over 20yrs without an incline of either parents forenames would take some time.

I could do it but that wouldn't be proof as to who his parent's were as it would draw up every John Walker within that timescale which would still be a blank :-/

Hi Anne Marie

Yeah I have the 1871 census.

John died between 1888 and 1919 I think.

Peggy and Neil didn't have a child called Peggy.

I have found a John With a Ann McCaskill m 1856 and a his death 1897 and also had a son call Alexander b 1867.

John's death puts his birth about 1837 but his marriage puts his birth around 1818 big difference but its the same person can't find his birth yet any thoughts about this information.

Norry,

1871 - North Lochboisdale (Boisdale)

Flora MacLellan Head 36yrs U Ag. Lab (b c 1835)
Peggy MacLellan Dau 4yrs Scholar

I will assume you have Peggy's death details & MI from Hallan Cemetery.

Does her death cert. have John recorded as deceased?

This would give you a better idea of the timescale for his death which will narrow your search.

So far we know he's alive in 1888 so your search for his death

Assuming John Walker was from the same area this might be him?:

John Walker Head 40yrs U Crofter 4 acres (b c 1831)
Jane Walker Sis 42 \" U General Servant
Anne Walker Sis 30 \" U \" \"
Jane Walker Niece 12 \" Scholar

How will you know if you have the correct person?
Do you have an incline as to who John\'s parent\'s were?

Out of the 3 names John, Ann & Jane, I can only find 2 with matching parents :-(

Did Peggy Walker & Neil Campbell have a daughter named Peggy c 1900?

If so, it looks like John married but hard do ascertain at the moment.

A bit of groundwork to cover yet!

Hi Anne Marie

That's the problem I have, I don't have much information Margaret (Peggy)Walker was her name when she got married 1888 North Lochboisdale and her father John (Plasterer) was named and still alive according to the extract he was also on the birth certificate 1665. Alisdair could of had at least 2 sons John and Ronald and I don't know when or where they were born.

Norry,

Do you know where John was born?

Do you know if John's children were named/registered with his surname or was it a case of them assuming his name later in life?

Do you know which area(s) these people may have lived, individually?

Do you have a guestimate of Alisdair/Alexander's birth date & area they lived as Bornish is a registration area primarily as well as being a small settlement/village area so they may well have lived further south e.g. Boisdale area?

Do you have any other relevant details to identify these people?

All those names are common to the island so the more details you have, the easier it is for other's to identify with, especially people like myself with no known connection but willing to help where possible.

Anne Marie.
