Save Southend Community Hallby Marie Campbell, Community Co-ordinator [viewed 9705 times]
| Southend Community Hall is a registered charity (SC000421) whose objects are to benefit our residents' health and education, provide a meeting place for recreation and social activities, and foster community spirit.
We are seeking funding to develop the Hall’s capacity to be the hub of activities and services for everyone in the local community. The Centre will be safe, warm, inviting, busy, fun, informative, inspiring - and continue to be community owned and run in a more sustainable way.
Nearly everyone in the community has used the Hall for weddings, sports, opticians, youth group, meetings, fitness suite, ceilidhs to name but a few.
It has served the community well over this time, but has never been ideal, because of poor insulation and high heating costs, leading to serious energy inefficiency, and consequent deterioration in the fabric of the building. Our kitchen is no longer fit for purpose and the main meeting and activity rooms are in need of upgrade and refurbishment.
We intend to install a turbine, insulation, do roof repairs and install new windows and new kitchen equipment.
How you can help
We need to show to funders that the community is behind the proposal and does not want to lose the facility. We are looking for people to say why it has been important to them in the past and currently, and to come up with ideas for new activities in the future.
Comments on its current physical state will also be helpful, please feel free to like the article post on the southuist.com facebook page or the South Uist Appreciation Society [SUAS] facebook page and also leave some comments if you can.
