The Isle of South Uist

The McMillans

Title: The McMillans
Posted by: Alex Nairn on 17-06-2011

Discussion: Does anyone anywhere remember the McMillan family from early 1900s? The mother was Catherine and they had 5 daughters (Ina, Jessie, Lexie, Harriet, Angela) and a son (John) (There may have been another boy!!)

I am planning a visit to the island next year and would love to find exactly where they lived.

Thank you

Alex

Catherine MacPherson married Donald MacMillan in 1902 and their marriage was registered in Howmore, the northern parish in South Uist. All other marriges by MacMillans to a Catherine are at least thirty years earlierThe birth of Harriet Josephine MacMillan was registered in 1920 in Boisdale, the southern parish of South Uist. Hope this helps.

Hi Alex,

Do you have Catherine's maiden name & her parent's names (mother's maiden name) & her husband's name & rough dates of birth & an idea from which area they came from?

Anne Marie.
