The old siteby Eoghan Malone [viewed 1504 times]
| A long long time ago, you all may have been part of the original site which is pictured to the right.
Back then things were a bit different, there were far more users which kept the site constantly busy and in turn more appealing to potential users of the site.
At the moment there are around 185 members, which is quite a contrast to the 920 that the site had some years ago.
Version 1 Vs. Version 2
In comparison, there are 10 times more features on the new site than the older version.
The photogallery has always been the most popular feature on the site, understandably so as a picture of home, something you recognise, touches the right buttons and yanks your heart strings. There is a very good mix of photos up there, some of my favourites are the ones of Creagorry hotel, and the old photos dontated 5 years ago by Pauline MacDonald from Boston.
You can now add your comments and ratings to the photos.
The chatroom is a fairly new addition. You will need your southuist.com username and password to access it. Not much happening on the old chat front, maybe someone can suggest a schedule/ agreed time for people to meet and chat on it. Regardless, it does what it sez on the tin.
The internal mail system took some time to perfect, there are still some fixes to be added as suggested by existing members. Once there are more users on the site, I am sure it be busier. I have received a few emails from people through it, so far so good.
Of course you can view other peoples profiles, change your details and lie about your date of birth :-p
The acommodation database is getting bigger and bigger. Within the next few weeks I will be sending out a blast of emails to try and secure more properties on it. Thanks to all that have supported this feature.
There has been a good response for calls for news, but looking at other websites they are getting more news feeds from people. I have tried my best to establish links with people but not much joy, if you have some news, please send it in.
I have spent the weekend getting the forum ready, when its 100% tested I will notify you all with an email.
The guestbook is a good place to leave your mark, the old guestbook I have kept for posterity, please sign the new one if you have time.
What next...
As the site has seemed to settle, I have now turned my attention to completing the business directory, links listings and forum. These will improve awareness of local organisations and tourist information.
...help
If you have any news, events, ideas or perhaps you would like me to stick something on the site for a local charity etc, then please let me know.
You can now tell a friend using the 'tell a friend' link on the left hand side.
In the meantime I hope you enjoy the new site, please register and have some fun.
regards,
Eoghan | |
