Camper Van / Camp Site facilities in Uist

Title: Camper Van / Camp Site facilities in Uist
Posted by: Lucy Rai on 21-04-2010

Discussion: I read your post from last summer with interest - I'm bringing my sons up to South Uist as my great grandma came from the island and we plan to travel and stay in our camper as its the only way to manage the holiday with our dogs. We'd prefer a campsite, but really want to be on South Uist - can anyone suggest a solution which will not upset people? Would any B and B owners consider letting up park up and pay to use thier facilities?

I have contacted Moorcroft holiday / campsite directly and will be posting details of the new campsite on North Uist which has full facilities. I will repost once this is done and should be done shortly. This should help everyone.

There are two distinct campsites now on the Islands, both Benbecula and North Uist.

Hi Lucy,

The site in North Uist is called Moorcroft and caters for camper vans, campers and has a bunkhouse. Tel. 01876 580305.

See http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=8778 for sparse details!

Thanks Eoghan and Archie - I hadn't realised it was possible to drive from Benebecula to South Uise (duh!) - so Shell Bay looks fine, but I'd be interested in the new facility too. I'd still really like to find a way to stay on South Uist, but maybe we'll just book in to a B&B for one or two nights if we can't camp there.

Thanks again!

Hi Lucy,

As Eoghan says, there is a site in Benbecula. There is also a new facility in North Uist, near Carinish. I'm sorry that I don't rememeber the name of the place off hand, but will try to post an update when I do.

Archie

Lucy, Hello there. You may want to check out Shell Bay on the Isle of Benbecula. Quite central and has good facilities, and close to most amenities. Eoghan
