Title: McDonald / Morrison
Posted by: Stevie Gallagher on 29-12-2009
Discussion: Would anyone be able to offer any info regarding my G Grandmother Mary McDonald's siblings / family?

Mary was the daughter of Donald McDonald and Mary Morrison and had at least 2 brothers John and Donald - though there may be other siblings. Mary died aged 29 in Rothesay in 1908 and from what I can gather her two daughters - Rosie and Mary Gallagher were then taken back to S Uist to be raised by Mary's family with her sons Hugh (my grandfather) and Donald going to Clydebank with their father (James Gallagher). I don't know how long Rosie and Mary lived on S Uist but I do know they both eventually came to live in Clydebank / Glasgow area - Rosie married a William Brawley and Mary a Connelly.

You can view my family tree at the following website:

Any info appreciated

Cheers and all the best for 2010

Title: McDonald / Morrison
Discussion: Hi Stevie

Mary McDonald is also my Great Grandmother, with Mary Gallagher being my grandmother. I have found your information on the McDonalds/Morrisons on this site very helpful and it has been great to see some photos on tribal pages.

I have some information for you on Mary Gallagher. She was born 31/12/1906 and died 21/7/1983. She married Thomas Connolly (b. 7/5/1904 in Dalmuir; d. 22/1/1960) on 29th December 1927 at Our Holy Redeemer, Clydebank.

As you mentioned, she was brought up on South Uist, by an Auntie Marion, and she stayed there until she was approximately 16.

I received some family information from my auntie Catherine (Kate) Connolly in Old Kilpatrick, who I believe you know. She and her brother, my Uncle Tommy, may be able to provide any other information you need.

Best wishes for 2010
