The Stone House is situated at the head of a sea loch, Loch Eynort, facing Ben More, the highest point of South Uist. Sandy beaches are five minutes away to the west as is Askernish Golf Course, a recently rediscovered and regenerated Tom Morris course. Reduced rates can be arranged to play here.

Loch Druidibeg Nature Reserve is nearby, as is Kildonan Museum and various archaeological sites. The Machars Way takes walkers along the beaches and there is ample opportunity for cyclists, canoeists and windsurfers to explore the area.

Walkers can benefit from the surrounding hills, including Ben More and Hecla. Further down the road, at North Loch Eynort, where the road ends in a turning circle, is a footpath around Loch Eynort where it is possible to see otters, seals and a wide variety of bird life. Ben More can be accessed from here.

The Stone House is an old croft house, recently renovated to a contemporary standard. Due to the thick walled stone construction, advantage has been taken of the space in the reconstruction and the original tiny windowed rooms downstairs now form the sleeping accommodation.
